Newbattle Abbey is an ideal setting for exploring the history of Scotland, and the College offers as options Medieval Scottish History, the Scottish Reformation (1542-1587) and the Treaty of Union of 1707, all of which have close associations with the building and grounds, and illustrate important aspects of the development of modern Scotland.

We have also recently developed a unit on the History of Celtic and Gaelic Scotland, as part of our Celtic Studies programme, which covers the origins of the kingdom of Alba through to the development of Gaelic culture in the Highlands.

In addition, we teach a range of European and World History topics, including the Russian Revolution (1894-1923), the Atlantic Slave Trade, Irish history from Home Rule to the Treaty (1900-1922), the First Crusade (1095-1099), and ancient Greek society and drama.
