Short Courses
At Newbattle Abbey College we run a number of short courses, often in collaboration with other groups / organisations. Current short courses include:
Beekeeping for Beginners
Wednesdays from 11th April – 16th May 2012, 7–9pm
Learn about the honey bee, the hive, how to carry out a hive inspection, the tools you need to start up a hive, the problems you might encounter and of course, how to harvest your honey! Observe practical bee handling in our College apiary and help put together wax frames to prepare for next year’s harvest.

Cost is £50 for this six week course. (Men and women 60 years and over can apply for a reduction of £10 by sending proof of age with their application.)
Gardening in a Nutshell
Tuesdays from 24th April – 15th May 2012, 6:30 – 8:30pm
This four week gardening course is for people who are fairly new to gardening and are looking for a bit of guidance to grow their own salads and vegetables and have a blooming garden this summer!
- Seed sowing
- Soil preparation for growing vegetables and plants
- Containers and basket planting and care
- Spring and summer lawn care.
Please dress for outdoors.
Cost is £35 for this four week course. (Men and women 60 years and over can apply for a reduction of £10 by sending proof of age with their application.
