I was a student at Newbattle in 1969/70, and owe a great deal to the fact that the College gave me a chance to move into higher education. I went on to a university degree in history & politics, and became a librarian. For the last 20 years, I have been running my own business as a genealogical bookman, and have written and published numerous guides and handbooks for family historians. My career would not have been possible without the initial opportunity presented by Newbattle.

I've posted on here before a few years ago, but since then I've moved house and had to re-register with the NAC site. My time at the college 1985-87 was truly life-changing and affirming. Fantastic people, debates, tutors, learning and all within the beauty of the setting. I lived in the college for a year and loved the place and the grounds.

I will never forget my experience. I went there as someone who had 'failed' at school but with a determination to have an education. After NAC I went to the University of Glasgow (MA Soc Sci)) and since then have also achieved a BA Hons (Soc Work) from the OU, with many associated certificates / diplomas etc. If I could do it then so can you!

I hope to visit the college in the not too distant future with my digital SLR camera. Best wishes to all students, staff and potentials...
