21st October: Newbattle Abbey College receives glowing report from HMIe
Newbattle Abbey College has received a glowing report from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIe).  Scotland’s only adult education residential college received two Very Good and seven Good results following a recent inspection.
Newbattle aims to increase participation and widen access for adult learners with few or no qualifications. The Newbattle Abbey Arts and Humanities Award is an SQA-validated customised access to university programme, which is approved by the Scottish Widening Access Programme (SWAP). The college can accommodate 60 full-time students and provides learning support targeted at adults returning to learning. The college offers full grants (not loans), board and lodging on site and all the support adults need to study and learn.
Newbattle Abbey College Principal Ann Southwood, said: “We are delighted to achieve such a positive report from our recent HMIe inspection. These excellent results are testament to the hard work and dedication of the fantastic team of staff at the College.”
